Through guidance by the HCOE Advisory Committee on Faculty Professional Development, fellow(s) will develop an academic portfolio of personal and professional interest that will prepare them for future success along a research, educator, or professional practice track. Fellows will graduate with a Masters Degree, with a concentration in the health of Hispanic and underserved populations. Satisfactory completion will prepare a fellow to assume a full-time faculty position.
Over 15 mos., the fellow(s) will develop competencies in the following areas:
Research (Research design; Clinical epidemiology and evidence-based medicine; Statistical analysis; Responsible conduct of research)
Education (Techniques for teaching learners of different levels; Evaluation of learners)
Communication (Scientific communication; Networking)
Professionalism (Habit of life-long learning; Career planning; Self-evaluation)
Management and leadership skills (Academic leadership and administration; Advocacy)
Applicants must have completed an ACGME accredited residency program, have a full and unrestricted license to practice, be board-eligible or board-certified in their respective field, and be accepted to the Master’s program.
Candidates will be selected based upon a) their prior investigative and/or scholarly productivity or experience, b) intellectual capacity as determined by past performance, c) at least 3 letters of recommendation from departmental Chairs and faculty, d) appropriate and realistic career goals, and e) a personal interview.
