Responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the Patient Financial Services Department and overseeing all activities related to accounts receivable management.
Develops and directs business office processes to achieve best practice targets and ensure maximum reimbursement and the highest level of compliance.
Provides direction and daily participation in all business office responsibilities including, Financial Counseling, Billing, Collections and Denial Management.
Serves as subject matter expert for Epic and ensures all workflows and processes follow industry standards as measured by best practice key performance indicators.
Works under the supervision of the Associate Vice President, Clinical Business Services.
Directs Supervisors and staff of Hospital Patient Financial Services
Duties & Responsibilities:
Direct daily activities associated with billing, follow up, cash posting and denial management.
Manage Accounts Receivable and present KPI’s and action plans to Revenue Cycle Steering Committee.
Develop short-term and long-term goals and objectives for the Patient Financial Services department.
Develop policies, procedures and performance expectations to ensure efficiencies, compliance and maximum reimbursement. Proactively identify, develop and implement process improvement initiatives and operational flows designed to address service, financial, compliance and efficiency opportunities.
Aggressively pursue opportunities to improve existing patient financial service operations. Works closely within the Health System and with third party insurance carriers to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of joint processes.
Conduct research as required to stay abreast of the market with regard to Accounts Receivable (A/R) management and various regulatory changes and policies which impact billing and collection activities. Utilize most up to date knowledge of insurance billing and follow up procedures; national and state level billing requirements; and contracted insurance payers to ensure operating alignment and compliance.
Manage dashboards and other reports to identify trends in key indicators that impact financial performance
Research, identify and rectify issues interfering with submission and processing of claims and payments of accounts.
Contribute to Epic design, build and training prior to and through go live and ensure system optimization post go live.
Direct all levels of personnel management including employee satisfaction/engagement, training and performance evaluations.
Develop departmental budget and manage operations within the approved budget.
Serves as a subject matter expert and responds to inquiries from other departments.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications Required

Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
Thorough knowledge of Revenue Cycle, hospital billing and follow up and AR Management.
Considerable knowledge of relevant agency policies and procedures and State and Federal laws, statutes and regulations.

Experience and Training:
Eight  years of progressive professional experience in hospital patient financial services.
Bachelors’ degree in Health Administration, business administration, Health Science and Policy or closely related field may be substituted for four (4) years of the general experience.
Epic proficiency/certification required within 6 months of hire
Demonstrated project management experience with software implementation/enhancement or conversions.
Experience with Epic Hospital billing applications
Previous supervisory/management experience in an Epic Hospital Billing environment
