The Associate Director, Standards and Survey Methods plans, manages and evaluates activities and projects related to the development and refinement of accreditation and certification standards and survey methods. Supervises professional and administrative support personnel.
Plan, manage and evaluate activities and projects related to the development and refinement of accreditation and certification standards and survey methods. Define activity and project parameters and specifications, and organize related staff resources. Formulate effective and innovative approaches to accomplishing project and operational objectives.
Supervise professional personnel. Participate in recruiting, assessing, training, evaluating and disciplining (if necessary) departmental personnel.
Manage daily operations related to department projects which are often very large and complex. Monitor current projects to ensure that they are conducted in a highly professional manner. Act independently and pro?actively to manage and resolve project?related problems as they arise.
Mentor direct reports to support corporate and departmental mission, vision, values strategies and goals including individual project goals.
Promote and participate in process improvement and performance excellence activities.
Participate in the development of standard operating procedures necessary for smooth project implementation and consistent project performance.
In consultation with Directors, assess relevant training needs for individual staff and groups of staff, including assessment methods and measurement systems.
Design training courses and programs necessary to meet training needs, or manage this activity via external provider(s).
Maintain awareness and knowledge of contemporary theory and methods related to the development of standards and survey methods, field engagement strategies and emerging technology solutions. Stay informed as to relevant skill and qualifications levels required by staff for effective performance, and circulate requirements and relevant information to departmental leadership as appropriate.
Prepare and present memoranda, position papers and ad hoc reports for the Board of Commissioners, its various committees, external advisory bodies and senior management concerning all aspects of the department’s work. Coordinate assignments with directors, department heads, and officers within the Company and with others external to the company as required.
Liaise with other functional/departmental managers. Provide professional/technical guidance and consultation to other Joint Commission divisions and personnel in the development and conduct of practical research, standards and survey methods related activities, and data collection, analysis and reporting.
Initiate, coordinate and participate in the dissemination of information through internal communication vehicles, journal publications and presentations at conferences.
Assist in the development and administration of departmental budgets related to specific projects. Manage and control departmental expenditure within agreed budgets.
The level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of a Masters Degree.
Five to seven years of progressively increasing responsibility in project and/or personnel management. Previous experience in health care administration or delivery is highly desirable. Cardiac background preferred.
Managerial ability to plan, organize, and synthesize complex projects involving a wide range of individuals, groups, and/or committees. Ability to complete work independently or lead a team engaged in multiple project assignments.
Demonstrated ability to problem solve and juggle multiple priorities.
Effective interpersonal skills to manage project staff and interact with individuals at various levels both inside and outside of the organization, often in sensitive situations requiring political awareness.
