Manager of Financial Reporting -- Health Plans is responsible for managing the accounting functions, including, establishing and maintaining accounting principles, procedures and initiatives; managing the annual external audit, interpreting guidance regarding complex accounting issues, new accounting pronouncements and regulations; managing the audit and accounting for the health insurance exchange, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and Uniformed Services Family Health Plan (USFHP) health plans. The position prepares financial reports and presents findings and recommendations to senior leadership in the organization.
Additionally, the Manager of Financial Reporting -- Health Plans provides leadership, direction, and oversight of all health plan accounting functions for CHRISTUS Health.
Related to Leadership and Management:
Provide leadership for the selection, training, development, and performance outcomes of the Associates in the areas of responsibility.
Participates in the leadership of the department by coordinating training activities for staff, assuming an active role in the management team meetings and activities and assisting in the decision making process for departmental issues.
Regular interaction and communication with members of the Senior Leadership Team of CHRISTUS Health Plan, (both financial and non-financial) requiring excellent interpersonal skills.
Enhance the work environment to ensure Associate engagement and satisfaction.
Place high focus on process improvement and development of direct and indirect reports.
Resolve or facilitate the resolution of issues and concerns that create barriers to a high performing team and work environment.
Related to Audit, Tax and Regulatory Compliance:
Manage the external annual audit process for the health plans, ensure all deadlines are met, and, participate or lead other responsibilities relative to the external audit as designated by senior leadership.
Provide education to various audiences throughout the System relative to health plan finance.
Research, evaluate and interpret new or existing accounting pronouncements, standards and other regulations applicable to the health plan. Communicate and provide education regarding any relative interpretation.
Related to Financial and Accounting Functions:
Manage the annual budget process for the health plans ensuring all due dates and deadlines are met.
Provide support/information to the Senior Accounting/Finance Managers as needed, in addition to requests from Senior Leadership of CHRISTUS Health.
Provide leadership and oversight for the health plan financial reporting, including month-end close and all other responsibilities of direct reports, ensuring timely reporting and responsiveness based on due dates and deadlines.
Perform special projects as requested by senior leadership of the health plans.
Manage the preparation of financial reporting including but not limited to Board Meeting Presentations, the FSR, the CSR, budget to actual variance analysis, rate / volume analysis and other financial reports as directed by Health Plan Senior Leadership.
Bachelor degree in Accounting, Business or Finance.
Knowledge of health insurance industry highly preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office products required.
Extensive knowledge of GAAP and other applicable regulatory rules, regulations & legislation as related to health plan accounting functions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate with all levels of personnel in a large organization.
Excellent organizational skills.
Deadline-oriented and ability to multi-task.
Years (3) or more years experience in an accounting/finance environment; heavy focus on accounting.
Demonstrated experience in process improvement / redesign initiatives
Demonstrated knowledge of accounting systems and experience in implementation and/or conversion of accounting systems.
Demonstrated ability and experience in interacting with all levels of Management and other Associates.
