POSITION SUMMARY: The Network Administrator I participates in data network maintenance and support. This includes all networking systems including WAN/LAN/wireless infrastructure. The Network Administrator I also performs maintenance procedures on networking hardware, cabling, operating systems, and infrastructure. The Network Administrator I is expected to remain current on developments in telecommunications and networking technology. The Network Administrator I has strong technical knowledge and experience in routers, bridges, IP addressing, switches, hubs, other network devices, protocols, diagnostic tools and all existing network architectures (Ethernet, FDDI, ATM, etc). In addition, strong analytical and problem solving skills are critical to troubleshooting networking issues and analysis of system and network performance. The Network Administrator I is responsible for delivering high quality cost-effective solutions to all levels of users, and is also responsible for supporting the business goals and objectives for the Information Systems Department, and the organization as a whole.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science , Engineering or a related field. Four years of equivalent experience will substitute for Bachelor's degree, or an Associate's degree in Information Technology field and two years of equivalent experience will substitute for Bachelor's degree.
Working knowledge of mainframe, midrange, IP addressing, network protocols, UNIX, network design, telecommunications strategy, environments, operating systems, and equipment.
Unix programming experience.
Network cabling design and implementation.
Problem solving skills.
Patience, strong customer service skills.
EXPERIENCE: Two years experience in complex corporate LAN and WAN environments.

General office setting with exposure to computer room environment. Exposure to patient care and ancillary biohazards. Extended video display exposure and use of keyboard.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift and transfer objects typically not in excess of 50 lbs. May be required to reach objects typically not in excess of 5 lbs. up to 8 ft. above the floor with the assistance of a step stool. Extended use of video display terminal and keyboard utilizing sound ergonomic principles.
