Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) seeks a visionary and transformative leader to be its next Dean of the College of Health Professions (CHP or College). As Dean, the successful candidate will unite a vibrant set of diverse academic disciplines into a coherent and synergistic whole, promote continued excellence in education, research, and clinical care, and stimulate and harness the collective power of faculty, staff, students and alumni toward a lofty vision of elevating the status and impact of the health professions in the vast and complex healthcare landscape of today.
The VCU College of Health Professions is an international leader in its category. It boasts superlative programs, an exceptional teaching faculty, healthy research productivity, a highly energized student body, and high-performing graduates. It offers an impressive total of 17 degree programs at the baccalaureate, certificate, master’s and doctoral levels across 9 disciplines, and is home to the Virginia Center on Aging. Five of the College’s graduate programs rank among the top twenty in the nation. In 2018, U.S. News and World Report ranked the Rehabilitation Counseling program at number four, Health Administration at number three, and the Nurse Anesthesia program as the number one program in the country. Coming upon the institution’s 50th anniversary and looking to the future, the College will proudly unveil a brand-new, state-of-the-art, LEED Silver certified, towering glass structure in Spring 2019, which will become the first-ever centralized building for all the College’s eleven units.
The incoming dean will set and articulate a specific vision for the College and design a roadmap for the achievement thereof. The dean will support the College’s nine department chairs in the leadership of their individual units, empowering them to build upon the College’s first-rate education and working to strengthen their interdisciplinary relationships. The dean will fortify inter-college and community partnerships and produce new and interesting opportunities for collaboration. This leader will also foster a culture of inclusion, diversity, and equity as they work to recruit, mentor, promote, and retain the next generation of diverse faculty and staff and enroll an increasingly diverse student body. The Dean of CHP will champion innovation at every turn.
