This position manages strategy and operations for the Pre-Service team across Acute and Ambulatory sites. Pre-Service team is responsible for assisting patients during the onsite registration, admission, and arrival processes for scheduled and unscheduled visits in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Director responsible for overseeing success of Pre-Service team's performance of conducting insurance verification and authorization for scheduled patient appointments and for \u201cwalk-in\u201d visits as necessary. The Pre-Service Director will oversee financial clearance functions across all Acute facilities and Ambulatory clinics and reports to the Patient Access Senior Director.
Responsible for delivering consistent and effective leadership on various business processes and technologies related to Banner Health's financial clearance activities. Build strong relationships and facilitate productive communication between key revenue cycle stakeholders, including peer leaders of revenue cycle services and core support departments (e.g., human resources, business support services, finance).
Effectively leads and coordinates initiatives and operations associated with the financial clearance activities and directs the implementation of standards and systems to enhance quality, consistency, efficiency, and timeliness of such processes. Addresses issues/barriers that may be impeding performance, including technology or processes effectively and proactively.
Directly leads senior managers that have oversight of authorizations for scheduled services and eligibility, estimate creation and patient contact. Ensures these processes and workflows maximize patient experience and Banner Health's reimbursement for services rendered. Develops, prepares, maintains and adheres to annual department budgets. May prepare business plan for capital requests for major expenditures. Develops and monitors department staffing plans and schedules to ensure appropriate staffing levels at all times while remaining within budgeted expense guidelines.
Facilitates timely communication and works collaboratively with other departments, including but not limited to acute and/or ambulatory based Patient Access, Case Management, Scheduling, and Physician Offices to ensure the processes and systems are standardized and optimized for efficient and effective flow of financial clearance activities.
Direct efforts to institute summary level dashboards that serve to aggregate key performance indicators for Financial Clearance activities to drive informed decisions regarding current state process, staff training/development needs, process improvement opportunities. Ensures compliance with all state, federal and organizational regulations including the implementation of systems and processes.
Supports the Executive Director with setting the strategy and serves as a key promoter of leading practice financial clearance processes that will protect the institution's revenue and achieve optimal patient experience.
Directs personnel actions including recruiting, new hire actions, interviewing and selection of new staff, salary determinations, training, and performance management. Provides mentoring and clear developmental opportunities to leaders and/or staff. Able to demonstrate the ability to successfully mentor and develop leaders and staff, in order to have a solid succession plan in place.
Develops work goals and objectives for the department in accordance and alignment with company goals; measures and provides feedback, leadership and motivation for staff achievement of departmental goals.
Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance or Accounting, or equivalent professional experience.
This position requires 5+ years of similar management experience in admitting and registration practices and a proven ability to manage to the desired outcomes in the patient financial services functions. Highly effective interpersonal, leadership and influencing skills are required.
