PRIMARY FUNCTION: To manage the transportation and clinical runner activities and personnel of Patient Escort Services. To coordinate a variety of administrative and supervisory activities to ensure efficient and effective departmental operations. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages and coordinates the supervisory personnel in order to facilitate departmental operations. Orients, trains, and evaluates the performance of assigned supervisory personnel. Investigates employee related problems and performs personnel actions such as selection, merit increases, promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, and terminations. Plans, organizes, and supervises work assignments for supervisors. Manages all activities regarding man-hour utilization of assigned personnel to include work schedules, man-hours, and payroll. Controls, monitors, and evaluates operational efficiency of services, and recommends subsequent adjustments. Monitors regular reports of operating budget expenditures and assists the Manager in preparation of operating and capital budgets. Facilitates departmental Quality Improvement activities and prepares related reports. Enforces adherence to departmental standards and procedures to include safety, quality control, and work rules. Completes statistical reports for management review and works independently on projects as directed. Orders departmental supplies and ensures efficient operation of equipment. Assumes supervisory duties of subordinates as circumstances demand. Conducts departmental meetings, serves on assigned committees, and participates in management programs. Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors. Performs other related duties as required. SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS: Frequent contact with departmental staff, Nursing departments, ancillary departments, Human Resources and support services in managing patient escort transport and clinical runner services, procurement and maintenance management of general patient transport vehicles, and ensuring efficient departmental operations. DIRECTION/SUPERVISION OF OTHERS: Direct supervision of Patient Escort Services schedulers, Clinical Runners, transporters, and supervisors. DIRECTION/SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Director, Environmental Services EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Management, or related field. Two years supervisory experience An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of patient transportation methods and techniques. Knowledge of transport, dispatch, scheduler, and clinical runner functions. Knowledge of CCHS and departmental policy, procedures, and standards. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in basic mathematics. Ability to supervise and direct subordinate personnel. Ability to delegate work and responsibilities to subordinates and evaluate their performance. Ability to plan, organize, and implement policies and procedures. Ability to assess and evaluate problems and recommend effective solutions. Ability to conduct productivity studies, time task studies, and in-service education sessions. Ability to operate area of responsibility within budgetary guidelines. Ability to establish and maintain good public relations. Ability to establish and maintain positive interdepartmental and intradepartmental communications and constructive working relationships. Ability to exercise judgement, tact, and diplomacy. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: None PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Walking with intermittent sitting and standing WORKING CONDITIONS: Generally pleasant hospital environment. Requires movement throughout the hospital facilities.
