Director, Research Financial Management

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a Director of Research Financial Management (RFM) to join the Office of Research and Project Administration (ORPA) . We are a dynamic and expert team of research administration professionals. The Director of RFM is a key leader in ORPA , directing and guiding an effective group of research finance management professionals and driving best in class practices. This position requires dedication to business knowledge and operational excellence through a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, innovation and partnership.

You Will:

• Be responsible for the strategic planning and programming initiatives affecting the management of MSK's research funding portfolio and Sloan Kettering Institute corporation funds for research.
• Establish and oversee a control environment for central, post-award financial management of and reporting on government (e.g., federal, state), non-government, industry sponsored and institutional funds, in alignment with federal and other accounting principles and policies, as required.
• Ensure compliance with all rules for the financial management of grants and contracts and related institutional policies, procedures, quality standards, improvement initiatives and external legal regulations which includes working with other departments to establish compliant internal controls
• Work collaboratively within ORPA and with partners in the research community to motivate changes in work products and process that will improve unit and research enterprise efficiency and effectiveness
• Build and provide full leadership and managerial responsibility for an effective RFM team. Lead all aspects of unit operations and prioritize workflow to ensure efficiency, regulatory compliance and sound operation
• Foster a strong results orientation within unit by motivating staff and holding them accountable to meeting the needs of constituents and organizational goals; Create and propagate a supportive team environment and a culture focused on high performance
• Strategically partner with divisional leadership, faculty, administrative and clinical management staff to plan and implement new department-wide and/or divisional or institutional programmatic initiatives
• Forge and maintain collaborative and positive relationships with constituents, senior leadership and external sponsors; Engage institutional partners to gain insights and/or to request system/process updates to meet business needs
• Liaise with senior leadership, faculty, administration and external sponsors, taking a broad view to client-focused RFM.

You Have:

• A minimum of 7-10 years experience in research administration and/or non-profit finance administration experience
• A minimum of 4-7 years experience leading and developing a team
• A Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
• Experience working in a post award environment in an Academic / Medical or Research Institution
