Individuals within the Network job family design, implement and secure business solutions using networking equipment. The Network group is responsible for providing secure and highly available networks for MemorialCare’s clinical and business computing platforms. They install, maintain, upgrade, and continuously improve the organizations network environment. The Network groups services include monitoring, diagramming, budgeting and back up to sustain highly available network operations. The Network group responds to incidents, providing troubleshooting and escalating support for remediating service and performance issues. They additionally provide planning and implementation assistance for projects and new services. The Network group has a thorough understanding of Change Management and its effects on operations ensuring business continuity. They understand LAN/WAN topologies and communications protocols to recommend, plan, and implement technical solutions meeting MemorialCare’s complex business needs. The Network group ensures that network solutions are working properly within MemorialCare and additionally, maintain networks for third-party client’s access. Under minimal supervision, the MemorialCare Sr. Network Engineer performs advanced Tier 2 support. Utilizing the highest level of technical trouble shooting and analysis methods they support resolution of incidents, problems, and requests specific to network systems and software. The Sr. Network Engineer possesses strong customer service orientation with proven analytical and problem-solving abilities. Sr. Network Engineer’s require the ability to lead, educate, and mentor junior resources. Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job - Focuses on network planning, design and implementation of complex security and network components.
- Establishes well defined documents for tracking Network standards and best practices as well as MemorialCare designed and maintained network diagrams.
- Supports highly available system validation by ensuring that all network equipment configurations and supplementary applications are backed up and tested on a regular basis and by providing advanced troubleshooting skills to minimize time to repair.
- Provides advanced packet capture skills and analysis working closely with internal and vendor support to gather required information for troubleshooting analysis.
- Educates and mentors other Network Engineers and vendors to bring issues to resolution in a timely matter and creates documentation for difficult technical installations and issues.
- Assists in coordinating, documenting, budgeting and assessing new and updated network technology required for implementation, including leading hosted technical or project meetings.
- Plans, designs, and troubleshoots local and wide area network infrastructure, including routers, firewalls, switches, gateways, NTP, DNS and DHCP servers, clustering solutions and related hardware, software, and services.
- Explains and documents technical issues in a straightforward and concise way. Provides advice and guidance to customers and colleagues regarding network incidents. Demonstrates collaboration on projects. Works with project teams to understand business needs and provide solutions. Coordinates engineers and vendors to understand technical requirements.
- Ensures processes and requirements are met such as security and version updates, backup, and service level agreements.
- Identifies, documents, and resolves technical problems with network, systems behavior, and security. Leverages MemorialCare’s monitoring and troubleshooting tools daily.
- Owns daily documentation of achievements, through enterprise ticket tracking systems. Follows guidelines established for tracking efforts related to assigned responsibilities and all hours worked are recorded for aid and analysis.
- Proactively communicates events to stakeholders, IT teams, and leadership.
- Perform daily network checks and monitor capacity.
