We are looking for a cloud expert to join us in the All of Us program's Curation team, part of the Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (VICTR), to help us design and architect the next generation of our Curation pipeline. Our pipeline combines and cleans data from multiple sources, including volunteer-completed surveys, EHR platforms, and wearable devices. It then produces an anonymized representation available for researchers. This work includes a heightened emphasis on leveraging the power of Google Cloud Platform's services.
You will work closely with our software engineers to architect our cloud solutions and plan improvements to our pipeline. Additionally, you will be relied upon to ensure proper documentation is in place and our FISMA Moderate+ security concerns are met. Participation in our program is growing at an exciting rate, meaning scalability of any solution is paramount.
Assists with Strategic Planning and short- and long-term roadmaps.

Worked with development teams to determine best fit cloud models (e.g., IaaS vs PaaS vs SaaS ) based on individual application requirements and workloads.
Collaborated with security and systems teams to develop Google IAM policies to enforce organizational security SOPs and federal compliances.
Designed and implemented a migration plan for moving the Curation team's ELT and ETL pipelines from a custom Python solution to the more scalable and manageable services provided by Google Cloud.
Help design the security and maintainability guidelines for running container-based microservices in GKE
Guided ETL implementation of hive-partitioned files stored in GCS into BigQuery and CloudSQL.
Architect and guide implementation of centralized logging and metrics capturing via GCP's Cloud Logging and Trace and services.
Trained and assisted development teams in building automated deployment processes for applications running in the cloud.
Defined improved deployment and configuration management by way of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tooling such as Ansible and / or Terraform.
Maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot infrastructure and services.
Developed patch schedules and maintenance windows for cloud systems.
Used GCP's Cloud Operations suite to provide development teams with alerting for application errors and dashboards for traffic and load analysis.
Worked with All of Us Security teams to provide visibility and reporting on operations within our cloud subscriptions for analysis and oversight by All of Us security teams.
Developed security audit reports to meet federal compliance requirements.
Set up cost alerts and thresholds to prevent overspends on runaway resource utilization.
Advise on strategic infrastructure planning and emerging technologies
Advised leadership on departmental guidelines for systems architecture, capacity planning, and security policies.
Participated in internal and cross-organization meetings including to gain a holistic perspective on program needs and priorities.
Developed proposal for replacing low-visibility and high maintenance custom solutions to high-visibility, lower-maintenance services-oriented solutions.
Performed TCO and security analyses for planned GCP service integrations
