Job Summary
Responsible for providing vision, strategy, design, implementation, support, and highest-level troubleshooting of the organization's over 30,000 nodes, over 150 sites, Cisco-based LAN/WAN/WLAN and associated systems. Responsible for the work of others, including specifically the technical supervision of junior staff.
Job Duties
- Assumes full responsibility engineering and group leadership for one or more of the following areas; router and switches, firewalls, wireless, Data Center infrastructure, network monitoring and management, Unified Communications, VoIP Technologies.
- Responsible for planning and implementing the necessary hardware, software and telecommunications equipment to maintain and enhance the company's local and wide-area networks, including budget development, system configuration and maintenance and upgrades, stability and reliability, problem resolution, and arrangements for 24/7/365 coverage.
- Conceives and develops plans for architectural direction.
- Develops special configurations and configuration templates for network equipment, and reviews and approves those developed by junior staffDevelops project timelines, overall project plans, and annual and project budgets for new facilities, technology upgrades, capacity expansion, etc.
- Ensures that equipment and software are adequately current.
- Develops Management tools and scripting methods utilizing network management applications, Linux and Unix operating systems, and API functionality for automation.
- Identifies and localizes tier 3 connectivity problems utilizing management tools and scripting developed by engineering team Analyzes and corrects Tier 3 connectivity, switching, and routing problems in a complex network environment Participates in tier and tier 3 incident resolution as needed and problem management with other teams as required.
- In depth understanding of the network in terms of cable plant, carrier services, VTP domains, VLANs, bridging, spanning tree, advanced routing, and VPNs and wireless networking.
- MInforms project team leaders, team members, and functional management of the progress of project activities, on-going or recurring problems, and any circumstance which might threaten the availability or viability of the network.
- Provides technical supervision of junior staff assigned to responsible area(s), including assessment of capabilities, mentoring, assignment of appropriate projects and day-to-day tasks, and review of plans, progress, and results.

Position Details
On-site presence required for network issues, trouble shooting and router/switch replacement.
Routing and switching troubleshooting skills preferred.
