This position requires a high level of collaboration with other team members, and as such a hybrid working arrangement is expected. For the first 90 days of employment, the successful candidate is expected to work on-site 3 days per week (Tues-Thurs). Following this period, at least 1 day per week is expected on-site. The successful candidate will be expected to live or relocate within a commutable distance of the Research Triangle Park area of NC.
Purpose
The Strategy Analytics Developer is a key team member in support of the data-driven mission and vision of the Duke Health Strategic Planning department. They are a senior-level analytics professional who leads innovative reporting and data visualization development in partnership with stakeholders and the Strategic Planning team.
The ideal candidate will: Perform data analysis and problem-solving in a complex healthcare environment for Strategic Planning. Interact with stakeholders (doctors, nurses, clinical administrators, health system leadership, etc.) to understand and define their analytics needs and partner with technical teams to meet those needs. Brainstorm with Planning team members and recommend optimal ways to source, curate, and visualize the data.
Develop data queries and data assets which generate key insights and improve organizational decision-making. Help establish data management frameworks that improve data quality and reduce time-to-deliver.
Scope of Responsibility
Act as an integral part of the Strategic Planning Analytics team
Partner with Planning team members and external stakeholders to define analytics needs and translate requirements into technical designs
Source, curate, and land custom data sets into the enterprise database infrastructure
Design and document data architecture to effectively blend multiple disparate data sources
Develop and enhance custom SQL queries to support dashboard development and ad hoc data requests; properly document code and complete query tuning to enhance performance
Create Tableau dashboards which utilize multiple data sets and provide unique insights to stakeholders at all levels
Perform testing and QA activities on all technical products; support team members in QA of analytic insights
Provide operational and break/fix support of existing data assets
Mentor other team members in the use of dashboards and data extracts
Knowledge and Skills
Ability to effectively work on a diverse team with technical and non-technical backgrounds
Solid and effective written, interpersonal, oral and presentation skills
Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability
Understanding of relational and dimensional data models
Thorough understanding of Data Modeling and RDBMS architecture
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Ability to develop and manage robust analytical models in Excel
Required Experience
3 years of experience required
Data analysis, requirements gathering, and creating data solutions to support business processes
Data sourcing, data mapping and managing metadata
Documenting and analyzing healthcare workflows and clinical processes
EHR data experience and developing custom queries using an EHR database (i.e. Epic Clarity) strongly preferred
Developing complex SQL scripts and Tableau dashboards; examples of past work products are a plus
Demonstrated experience in creating data assets based upon customer design specifications and which deliver unique business insights
Healthcare/Research industry experience required
Knowledge of analytical tools, business intelligence tools, and statistical packages a plus
Education/Training
Bachelor's degree in an applicable field, such as Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Management Information Systems, or Health Care Administration required.
