Responsible for the development and maintenance of institution-wide financial transactions; to include long range financial planning and capital management, month end close processes, annual budgeting processes, internal controls, accounting, and reporting policies and practices. Identifies opportunities, analyzes complex financial information, and provides management with recommendations supported by data regarding the institution's financial performance. This includes technical and professional charging activity related to provider-based billing and an employed physician model. Responsible for quantifying the financial impact of business plans and strategies, including performing financial modeling, forecasting, profitability analysis, and business plan development. Responsible for complex work assignments and maintaining a focus of personal accountability while supporting a large, multi-specialty, academic hospital.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
CONTRIBUTES TO THE EFFECTIVENESS AND ACCURACY OF ALL FUNCTIONS RELATED TO FINANCIAL OPERATIONS. Pulls data, performs in-depth analysis, draws conclusions, prepares reports, and presents relevant summary findings in a timely, accurate, and user-friendly format (sub-reports, charts, graphs, etc.) that is appropriate for the intended audience. Ensures that reporting requirements and financial reports are prepared in a timely manner. Consistently demonstrates the ability to recognize, establish and deal with priorities promptly. Maintains reference material on a continuous basis and updates policies and procedures as required. Must have ability to understand financial ratios in the healthcare environment, i.e. ability to calculate and perform review on net patient revenue, cost and profitability, and productivity per volume statistics in relation to both the clinic and hospital setting.
COORDINATES MONTH END CLOSE ACTIVITIES, REPORTS, AND PRESENTATIONS. Must be able to communicate financial variances to Executive Team and Operations Leaders effectively. Must be able to communicate / educate department managers on how to read and understand monthly margin reports. Ability to support financial statements with data. Recommends process improvements to ensure month end reporting is as accurate as possible.
COORDINATES LONG RANGE FINANCIAL PLAN AND BUDGET PREPARATION AND PRESENTATION. MONITORS BUDGET TO MAINTAIN FINANCIAL VIABILITY. Prepares and reviews departmental budgets with Operations Leaders and Executive Team. Effectively communicate financial information to Physicians as well as any non-financial team members.
PERFORMS OTHER POSITION APPROPRIATE DUTIES AS REQUIRED IN A COMPETENT, PROFESSIONAL, AND COLLABORATIVE MANNER. Consistently demonstrates an ability to keep up with workload, reprioritizing assignments as needed. Strives to meet or exceed deadlines on special projects and studies. Prepares management reports and other financial reports, as requested. Displays a positive attitude and establishes a climate that reduces obstacles and encourages staff to formulate and practice own initiatives and perform at maximum achievement level. Assists the Regional Director of Finance in identifying opportunities and providing training for the Finance team and Operations staff to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to contribute to the success of the organization. Trains and cross-trains personnel to increase productivity and improve area operations.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business required. Master's degree and/or CPA certification preferred. Eight or more years of finance experience with a minimum of 3 years in healthcare and/or managed care; including previous management experience required. Experience with Provider Based Billing and technical/professional billing scenarios desired. High level of proficiency with MS Office applications including Excel, general ledger accounting software, cost accounting systems, and Epic medical record required. Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills required.
