The incumbent serves as the Medical Supply Technician Trainer within the Sterile Processing Department of the Patient Care Services within Harry S. Truman Veterans Memorial Hospital Healthcare System. The Truman Veterans' Hospital and Clinics is a facility/health care system with comprehensive research program and is a 1c complexity level category for VHA facilities. The incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of, and the ability to orient new staff, to a full range of: (1) Sets and trays used throughout the medical center, including those used in the operating room, and (2) medical/surgical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology. The incumbent directs the cleaning priorities of contaminated reusable medical equipment from wards, operating rooms, and clinics and ensures staff inspects these items for damage and that they are in good working condition. The incumbent is a resource for Medical Supply Technicians in the loading and operation of sterilizers such as Steam, Sterrad and high-level disinfecting process as well as reprocessing of endoscopes. The incumbent will accommodate special and emergent training requirements through consultation and coordination with medical/surgical professional staff. The incumbent assists the Assistant Chief of Sterile Processing as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the proper use, cleaning, and sterilization of RMD and any problems that may arise.
