SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Cyber Defense Infrastructure Engineer (Firewall) (CDIE-Firewall) is a critical team member directly contributing to the Penn State Health and College of Medicine Office of Cyber Securitys mission to Prevent, Detect, Analyze and Respond to threat activity (internal and external), information system vulnerabilities, and cyber incidents. This level of position is fully competent in the fields, operates under minimal direction and is expected to provide oversight to lower level tasks.
The CDIE-Firewall installs, configures, tests, operates, maintains, and manages next generation firewalls, firewall management tools, and other network-based systems necessary to protect our information and information systems. Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain appliance and server configurations (hardware and software) to ensure their confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Manage accounts, firewalls, and patches. Responsible for access control, passwords, and account creation and administration. Responsible for setting up and maintaining a system or specific components of a system (e.g. for example, installing, configuring, and updating hardware and software; establishing and managing user accounts; overseeing or conducting backup and recovery tasks; implementing operational and technical security controls; and adhering to organizational security policies and procedures). Test, implement, deploy, maintain, review, and administer the infrastructure hardware and software that are required to effectively manage the cyber defense infrastructure and resources. Monitor assigned cyber defense infrastructure systems to actively remediate unauthorized activities.
This level of position is fully competent in the field, operates under minimal direction and is expected to provide mentoring and oversight to lower level tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in computer science, cybersecurity, information technology, software engineering, information systems, computer engineering plus 8 years of experience or in network infrastructure, firewalls, IDS/IPS, application proxies, systems administration, network storage, enterprise authentication, backups and data retention required or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's or Ph.D. in computer science, cybersecurity, information technology, software engineering, information systems, computer engineering
