Job Summary:
This position will plan, write, and develop communication materials such as fundraising proposals, fact sheets, event materials, broadcast emails, talking points, gift acknowledgements and other donor-facing materials. Duties and Responsibilities:
As part of a communications team supporting VUMC Development, the communications strategist will have the following responsibilities:
- Plan, write, and develop communications materials under occasional guidance to support the efforts of VUMC Development.
- Project management for communications deliverables in partnership with clients, which may include message strategy/development, coordination with fellow communications team members and navigating approval path.
- Cultivate strong partnerships with identified development officers and other staff in key areas to develop materials, which may include fundraising proposals, fact sheets, event materials, broadcast emails, talking points, gift acknowledgements and other donor-facing materials.
- Provide general content development and strategic communications support across various areas of VUMC Development as needed.
- Contribute to the communications team's efforts to implement and evaluate a comprehensive communications program in support of VUMC Development mission and strategies.
- Provide backup to fellow communications team members, providing a broad range of project management and communications support.
- Work closely with fellow communications team members to manage infrastructure needs, which may include process document updates and shared folder organization to ensure materials are organized and accessible to team members.
- Liaise with graphic designer for project management of designed Development collateral, which may include invitations, programs, infographics, presentations, ads, impact reports, etc.
- Ensure communications materials adhere to VUMC brand standards and guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) (Required)
- 2 years experience (Required)
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrated curiosity
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines and adapt to ever-changing priorities are essential.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills, and the ability to articulate the needs, interests and accomplishments of VUMC to a wide range of audiences.
- Excellent proofreading and organizational skills with precise attention to detail
- Experience with development or advancement communications, or a record of demonstrated achievement in a field requiring the application of similar skills is highly desirable.
- Experience writing about health and/or medical issues is a plus
Evening and weekend work may be required.
