Job Summary:
The Vanderbilt Health Executive Search Team is conducting a national search for a COO, Vanderbilt Bedford Community Hospital. The COO at VBCH has full leadership and operational responsibility for the hospital. The COO will ensure success of the hospital through quality enhancement, cost containment, revenue growth and development of strong relationships with hospital staff, board members, and community leaders. The COO Will serve as the senior executive/administrator for VBCH focusing primarily on improving all aspects of operating performance. The COO will ensure patient-focused, high performance, results-oriented operations which will support the mission, vision, credo, and business operations of VBCH. This individual will work closely with operational leaders from throughout VUMC and schools to ensure coordinated patient care and management processes across the continuum. The COO is charged to lead a variety of operationally focused initiatives to support exceptional patient service, physician and staff satisfaction, clinical quality outcomes, growth and volume management, and financial performance with superior efficiency and productivity. The COO will function directly or through subordinates, and is accountable for all aspects of VBCH operations, providing competent and ethical leadership in the establishment and achievement of long-range goals, objectives, strategies, plans, and policies. The COO will promote and further VBCH as a center for high quality care, as well as a participant in Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network. This position will report directly to the VUMC Executive Office.

Role Accountabilities:
- Observe professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired concerning the personal, financial, medical or employment status of patients of the hospital and their families.
- Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and hospital.
- Responsible for overall operations of the acute-care facility.
- Working with system management to develop and implement policies and procedures, short- and long-range goals, objectives, and plans.
- Providing leadership to hospital managers, directors and officers that will enroll support, create ownership of goals, and encourage active participation in decisions that impact the hospital.
- Ensuring the hospital meets necessary regulatory and compliance approvals and quality accreditations in conjunction with the hospital's Chief Nursing Officer.
- Partnering with physicians who use, or will use, the hospital, taking a leadership role in the recruiting and retention of physicians.
- Developing and maintaining positive relations with local community as well as the community leaders.
- Analyzing areas in planning, promoting, and conducting organization-wide performance improvement activities.
- Representing the hospital at meetings including medical staff, hospital board of director meetings as well as relevant community meetings; participates with leaders in designing and providing patient care and services.
- Participating in the hospital's monthly operation reviews as well as participating in corporate office meetings as deemed necessary.
- Maintain an awareness of changes in healthcare matters that could have an impact on the financial success of the Hospital through continuing education, participation in corporate training and development, and an effective program of personal growth.
Qualifications - External:
Bachelor's Degree and 10 years' experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree Preferred and 15 years of relevant experience.
- Experience governing multi-departmental roles within a hospital system.
- Experience with c-suite and physician interaction (hospitalist and private practice).
- Experience leading teams with a focus on patient productivity, safety, quality, and team building.
- Strong community engagement and operations background.
